Venobat Story

Artist Joseph Boyce created this wonderful mask, the brainchild of a trip to Valencia, the pearl of the Mediterranean, recreating ancient stories of Valencia's history.

During a battle, a dark arrow flew towards Jaime I, King of Aragon.It happened that a bat flew by at this time, "using its own flesh" to block the fatal arrow for the king.

This boosted morale at once, and James I led his army to victory, becoming the first conqueror of Valencia.

In order to thank the protection of bats, James I regarded bats as protectors and designed them on the city emblem.

Since then, bats have formed an indissoluble bond with Valencia, and many sculptures or patterns and buildings of bats have appeared in the city.

The bat guardian, Joseph Boyce designed the VenoBat mask to bring victory and good luck to people.
